FETHIYE was named in 1934 after ''Fethi Bey'' the first pilot in the history of civilian aviation. It is fitting to be named after this adventurer as in and around Fethiye there are many places to be explored and discovered.
Once known as ''Telmessos'' Fethiye was founded in the 5th century BC. You can still see the sarcophogi form Lycian times today along with rock tombs and historical monuments from Roman, Byzanthian, Persian and Ottoman empires.

Also a short drive away from Fethiye are the resorts of Ovacik, Calis beach and the lively town of Hisaronu.
Only 30km away is the small town of Göcek. Drive there and try some of the different cafes and restaurants along the marina in this yachting centre.
Resting on the side of a hill and only 6km from Fethiye is the deserted old town of 'Kayaköy'. Wander through the old streets and become enchanted by the history or simply enjoy the magnificent views from one of the local wine houses.

The 50km journey from Fethiye is fascinating in itself as you drive through the countryside and witness rural Turkish life.
